Oh by the way? I don’t know WHAT I was thinking claiming Denmark wasn’t Scandinavian. AM I CRAZY? I guess I thought it was strictly Finland, Norway and Sweden. I was so, so wrong. Denmark is also included, even though it is to the south of those other countries and also contiguous with the totally non-Scandinavian country of Germany. To be honest, if you were judging just by looking at the map, you’d think that Estonia would have as much or more of a claim to being Scandinavian — it’s further north, for one thing, and just a quick hop across the Baltic Sea to get to Finland. But if you ever tried to call Estonia a Scandinavian country you’d be laughed right out of the room. So perhaps there’s something about Denmark’s culture that makes it Scandinavian and it’s not a strictly geographical designation, which I guess makes sense when you think about it. At any rate I apologize sincerely on the behalf of The Insophisticate for my error regarding whether Denmark is Scandinavian. It definitely is. So that is that.
